Akshay Rai leads investments in healthcare and life sciences at Premji Invest. Since joining in 2010, Akshay has held multiple roles at PI across India and the U.S. Most recently, he helped start U.S. healthcare investments for PI, which includes the firm’s investments in Moderna, Devoted Health, Iora, Adimab, and Sondermind.
Akshay is passionate about the urgent need for innovation in healthcare delivery and drug development. His focus is on platforms that leverage emerging technologies to discover new treatments and better care models, leading to improved clinical outcomes and patient experience. He is excited to partner with exceptional founders who are driving these changes and creating a lasting impact on the lives of millions of patients.
Prior to joining PI, Akshay was a healthcare analyst at Citigroup India. He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from NITK Suratkal and an M.B.A. from IIM Bangalore. In his free time, he is equally comfortable relaxing with a book or being outdoors. His favorite activities are playing pick-up soccer and climbing rocks with his 10-year-old son.
