Varun Mehta

Varun was most recently CEO of Atlas Data Systems (2025). Atlas is working on utilizing DNA as a permanent storage medium for long term archiving.  To enable this, Atlas is building systems from the chip level up to synthesize and sequence DNA with both high performance and low cost.

Prior to Atlas, Varun was CEO of Sneller Inc (2021-2023), which built a vector compiler to accelerate SQL on GPU architectures.

Prior to Sneller, Varun co-founded Nimble Storage.  He raised initial capital from Sequoia, Accel and Lightspeed.  Varun was the founding CEO (2007-2011) and then led product developemt and support (2011-2017).  Nimble had an IPO in 2013, 6 years after being founded and was acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise in 2017.  Varun led the Infosight system analytics team at HPE from 2017-2021.

Prior to Nimble, Varun was the first VP of Engineering at Data Domain where he built a successful product that enabled the company to IPO and subsequently be acquired by EMC.  Prior to Data Domain Varun was the 11th employee at NetApp which also had a successful IPO and subsequently became a leader in enterprise storage.

Varun holds an MBA from UC Berkeley, an MS from Rice University (where he is on the Engineering Advisory Board) and a BE from BITS, Pilani, India.
